**Lil Gator Game** is a movement-focused open-world adventure by MegaWobble, published by Playtonic Friends, in which a small alligator climbs, swims, glides and slides across an island full of characters who need help.[^1] It released on 14 December 2022 for PC and Nintendo Switch.[^1][^2] ## Gameplay The island is a playground built from cardboard monsters and childhood imagination: the player befriends its inhabitants, collects craft supplies, and uncovers everything the island has to offer, with traversal itself as the main joy.[^1] ## Development and release MegaWobble built the game in Unity with a custom physics-driven "Wobble Bone" animation system created by developer Scott Slucher — "anything that wobbles around is made up of Wobble Bones" — with modeling and animation done in Blender.[^3] The game expanded to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S on 10 October 2023, alongside a free update adding New Game+ and a "baby mode" that lets players replay the whole game as a younger Lil Gator.[^4] It joined Xbox Game Pass on 4 April 2024.[^5] ## In the Dark A "game sized" expansion, *[In the Dark](/lil-gator-game/wiki/in-the-dark)*, set in a massive underground world, was announced via Xbox Wire in January 2025[^6] and released on 12 February 2026 for Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Nintendo Switch, alongside a digital *Gator of the Year Edition* bundle; a physical edition followed on 27 February 2026.[^7] ## Reception Its no-stakes, all-heart traversal made it an instant [[cozy-game|cozy]] classic in the vein of [[A Short Hike]] — a comparison its structure openly invites. ## External links - [Official page (Playtonic)](https://www.playtonicgames.com/game/lil-gator-game/) - [Steam page](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1586800/) [^1]: Valve.
